What is a Computer Reservations System?

Computer Reservations Systems are powerful computer networks that allow travel agencies and airlines to communicate with one another globally.

Using a computer reservations system (also called a CRS) travel agencies all over the world can access and retrieve “live” information including airline flight information, seat availability and make reservations for air travel and other services such as hotel rooms, car rental vehicles, train journeys, cruises and tours worldwide.

CRS can make airline seat assignments, change and amend bookings, issue airline tickets and they a multitude of other functions for travel agencies, including receiving updated flight schedules or other product information.

What the course covers

This course will teach you about the many codes of the Travel Industry and at the same time teach you its most important skill: how to make reservations for your clients' airline seats, hotel rooms and car rental vehicles using one of three industry-standard CRS's.

Completing this course will give you the practical knowledge of how to operate a CRS that you need to work in travel - you actually do what travel industry employees do when they make bookings for airline seats, hotel rooms and car rental vehicles.

Hayton offers training in each of the major global CRS:

  • Amadeus, an Airline GDS used worldwide in Australia, Europe, South America and the USA
  • Galileo, an Airline GDS used worldwide especially in Australia/New Zealand and Europe
  • SABRE, an Airline GDS used worldwide especially in Australia, Europe and the USA

When you enrol you select one of these to be trained in. If you are working with or going for a job with a specific company you should be able to find out which CRS you need, if you are unsure then Galileo is a good choice. Once you have learnt one CRS it is quite easy to change to a new one - Hayton offers conversion courses to help people change to a new CRS.

If you already know how to use one CRS and need skills in another, Hayton also offers short courses to help you change to a new CRS.

Curriculum

3 letter IATA airport and city codes,  2 letter IATA airline codes, encoding / decoding, checking availability for airline seats, hotel rooms and car rental vehicles. Choosing the correct flight, building a complete booking, canceling or changing segments, choosing and quoting the correct fare or room rate, minimum connecting times. Industry jargon and codes. Signing In/Out, Timetables,  PNRs and BFs, Frequent flyer information, TCP, OSI, SSR, seat maps, seat assignments, booking cars and hotels, fare displays, fare rules and notes, itinerary pricing, ticketing, queues, wait lists.

Key Areas of Learning

  • Access and interpret CRS displays.
  • Use system features to access a range of information.
  • Create and process reservations, including printing BFs/PNRs.
  • Use the CRS to accurately create, process and interpret communications to and from industry colleagues.

Solution Graphics

Once your payment has been processed, you'll receive a confirmation email and, within 24 hours, an email with the access details on how to log in to your account and start your course.

We will also post you your printed workbook that is used to complete some exercises.

PREREQUISITES

This is a stand alone course, with no formal prerequisites.

If you know something about the industry and how it works it will be a great help.

If you are not currently working in the industry you should consider taking the Take Off into Travel course as well to give you the background to the travel industry that will be helpful.

ASSESSMENTS

Progressive online and workbook assessment with a final assessment that combines background knowledge with CRS/GDS skills.

Minimum system requirements are:

  • Recommended Pentium 4 or higher computer with 256mb RAM
