Course Delivery

Hayton uses two different learning management systems to deliver its courses to you. One (accessed through the course-ware browser) provides the CRS/GDS and IATA Fares courses, the other system (accessed through a standard web browser at http://learning.hayton.com.au) for other courses.

What you need to study

The system requirements for a Hayton College course are a reasonably modern PC and a broadband internet connection. Most computers bought new within the past 5 - 8 years should meet the minimum requirements.

Aside from the computer system, your physical learning environment is just as important. A quiet, safe environment (check for cords), an ergonomically correct comfortable chair, good lighting, notetaking material (pens/pencils), minimal distractions and disruptions are essential for an effective learning experience. Self discipline and a passion for travel will help!

How to study effectively

Take regular breaks, follow the training tips, keep hydrated, do all the quizzes and exercises as they come up, complete the workbook exercises and questions, finish within the designated timeframe, do not work all night, or for hours on end.

Most courses are interactive with immediate feedback, you will enjoy this online learning experience.

CRS and IATA Fares courses - how the learning management systems works

When you first sign up to either the Computer Reservations Systems or IATA Fares & Ticketing or IATA Fare Construction courses, you will receive a userID and password from us, as well as a link to download the course-ware browser (read the Logging In page for more details and to download the software). The browser is a small application you install that provides access to the training material and specialised functions.

Once the application is installed, you double-click on the icon on your desktop and log in. You then step through the course, completing quizzes as you go. You can check grades as you continue.

For a detailed step-through, view the Course Preview from the course page, or click the icon to the right..

Other courses - how the learning management systems works

When you first sign up for other courses (including Take Off into Travel), you will receive your username and password from us, as well as a link to login to the learning management system through a standard web browser (we recommend Firefox for the best experience). Your username will be the email address you used to register.

Once you've logged in you will see a summary of the courses you are currently enrolled in (completed courses may not be shown). Simply click a course name or the launch button to start or continue a course. You can start and stop the course as often as you like, although you will be logged out for security reasons if the browser is idle for two hours.

Stepping through the course using the instructions on screen - if you can navigate a web page you'll have no problem completing an online course! Quizzes are taken throughout the course, as well as a final quiz. You can check grades as you go.
