1. What can you tell me about Hayton College?
Hayton College is an industry recognised private training provider with a long track record of delivering industry standard travel qualifications up to Diploma in Tourism level. Since 2001 this experience and expertise has been available online with unique interactive skills and knowledge based units which assist people to gain the skills and qualifications they need to join this dynamic industry.
2. I've travelled a great deal, now I want to work in travel, will a travel skills course help me?
The Travel Industry's main work skill these days is the competent use of a Computer Reservations System or CRS. It can be difficult to gain that first "foot in the door" job unless you have good PC skills, understand a bit about the Travel and Tourism Industry and can demonstrate that you understand and can use a CRS/GDS. It will definitely look good on your CV and help you land that first job.
3. I haven't travelled much myself, will that matter?
Obviously, it helps but if you have a passion for travel you too can succeed to get a foot in the door. Most people who want a job in travel read the travel supplements in the newspapers
4. What skills and qualifications will I need to start applying for jobs?
You definitely need good PC and keyboarding skills, customer relations experience and personal travel also help. It is a good idea to start building up your knowledge and skills base. Why not start with the Take Off course if you don't know much about the industry and follow that up with a CRS course - we recommend Galileo for beginners.
5. I can't type very well, what can I do about that?
No problem, we have a very competitively priced CD programme called Typequick which is posted to you. If you work consistently though the programme you will learn to touch type in 10 lessons, increase your speed and accuracy which will help you use e-mail, the internet and your CRS/GDS more efficiently.
Travel Industry jobs require good keyboarding skills. You don't have to be the fastest typist in the world but you do have to be accurate. Mistakes cost money in a commission based industry.
6. What are my chances of getting a job after the course?
If you successfully complete the course material, receive a certificate, prepare a good CV and follow our interview tips which are provided when we assist with our CV preparation, have travelled personally, and have good PC and keyboard skills you have a very good chance of finding a position.
We recommend you take any job your are offered, gain some experience, wait at least a year
7. What sort of timeframe am I looking at before I can apply for jobs?
Once you have completed the Take Off course and successfully completed a CRS/GDS programme then you may actively start applying for jobs.
8. Who wrote these courses, are my tutors in the Travel Industry?
Definitely, all our directors, staff, writers and tutors are involved in the travel industry with many years experience and professional education qualifications.
As most of our courses are single units and the course fees very keenly priced, we do required full payment on registration as you get immediate access to all course content. We can, however, offer a payment plan of 2 equal payments (AUD365.00 each) for the Computer Reservations courses.
10. To get a job in travel, how many of these courses should I take?
If you have good PC and keyboarding skills, have had a job with customer service experience and some personal travel experience, it should not be too difficult to enter the travel industry.
We suggest you learn about the travel industry on our "Take Off into Travel" course and then take a CRS/GDS course: Galileo, Sabre or Amadeus. This will give you the knowledge and skills to apply confidently for an entry level position.
11. Do I need to be disciplined to take this course
You do need to be able to set aside a certain amount of time each day or every second day for optimal benefit of the interactive skills courses. If you leave too long between lessons you will forget and have to revise material thus wasting time that could be better spent. Some people study only every weekend and still do very well, a passion to work in the Travel Industry certainly helps.
12. I am applying for a Travel Agents' licence, which course do I need to take?
Fares & Ticketing I, also called Construct Normal International Airfares (THTSOP20A)

Yes, of course. Online help is available and explanations on how to get it come out with the First log in instructions. If you are really stuck you may make an appointment to speak to one of our tutors on our 1 300 numbers.
22. Are there any tips for online learning that you can give students?
Yes! They come out to you by e-mail with your access codes.

We have students from all around then world, very few have ever had a problem as the courses are really in the universal travel language of easily understood codes.
If you want to work in travel and your English is not of a very high standard, we suggest you take further studies as improved English speaking skills will help you get a job – anywhere in the world.
24. I don't understand what you mean by skills based "interactive"?
The CRS/GDS courses teach you the skill of making airline seat reservations, the course explains what is done and then you actually practice doing it. You use industry airline, city and airport codes and learn to make and read international air itineraries just the way travel industry professionals do.
25. How do the assessments work?
The major part of the assessment process is done online and marked immediately giving you immediate feedback, some courses also have workbooks which are completed and then sent in to the college for review prior to the final assessment. Some courses have an assignment which must be completed prior to certificate issuance. Each student is advised of assessment procedures on registration and again prior to the final assessment.
